This was Janice Gunner's; she loves indigo. She has been a very eminent teacher, stalwart Guild member and was one of the people who urged Andrew Salmon to set up the Festival of Quilts.

Festival of Quilts : My quilt and Friends'

 My Quilt

This was a belated entry as it's not hugely impressive but that is true of many entries and those tend to be the ones I like. The colours and fabric make it unique.

It was badly lit and dull whereas on the bed in artificial light it glows. Piqued I resolved to sell it and it did so very quickly to a previous customer so it's gone to a good home.

Quilters's Guild Region Two Show at Lullingstone

Here I am in the Guild Marquee at Lullingstone "Castle" standing proudly in front of the raffle quilt I made for Region 2. It was very popular and several people wanted to buy it (though they might not if they knew how much quilts cost to make and have professionally quilted). We had lovely weather and Sunday was just right, warm but not too hot.
I used mainly Tilda fabrics and the pattern was by  Lynne Goldsworthy in Today's Quilter. Quilting by Maggie Breakspear.

I had three other quilts in the show.

Summer Fruits was my version of a quilt made by a C19th Utah women who made hers sitting in a field minding sheep and a new baby. Hers was more tasteful in pale blue large check gingham, calico and plain blue accents.
I have wanted to use this black check with overlaid cherries for some time and this seemed just the job. It will be a tablecloth to use with white china.

Two more: on the left Blues Garden one of my fussy rotary cut four patch quilts and on the right Giant Nested Circles from a Daisy Aschehoug workshop. I'll keep the first one but will sell or donate the latter.

Something vintage, something new

 At Lower Hardres we had a splendid Show and Tell. Judi had brought well made special quilts back from her US visit.

and Mary brought the quilt she had made for her son's wedding. The design was chosen by the couple but instead of a print for one of the fabrics she did exquisite broderie perse and embroidery.

I took my Blues garden, quilted by Maggie to accord with the piecing.

Smaller items

 Led by Maggie, the Queen Beez had a bag day. She designed a very handy tote which doesn't take up too much room. We made two at once.

And Bonnies made cushions using tessalated stars. I made mine for my kitchen chairs in Cherrywood fabrics to fit in with all the others.

I completed a few Zip Up Pouches for the Guild FOQ tombola and the bags will do as well because they have zip up pockets inside.

Mine are on the left, black and chrysanthemum and green grass.

I also attended a rather arcane Guild workshop with Cas Holmes making small meaningful objects. My heart wasn't really in it and thought I should go along to make up the numbers and support the Guild. This wasn't necessary as various people turned up from a wide range to learn from such a distinguished teacher.The objects were encased first in crumpled paper then various fabrics and extensively stitched. I didn't quite get the idea and ended up with something like an untidy pass the parcel but others did much better.

Fortunately I had to dive off shortly after lunch to attend an eightieth birthday party along the road so didn't have to expose my shortcomings.

Recent Finishes

 I have finished several things all at once but just one keeper. The others will be sold or donated.

It was very unprepossessing free jelly roll.

I finished the workshop Two Strip Mix Up jelly roll quilt by machining the facing.

The second one used just three fabrics, the batiks bought in Malaysia 24 years ago. I more to come.

The last one is a keeper. I decided to finish my sample four patch rotary stack quilt as I don't think I will be demonstrating it again. The colours are very calming and the quilt is lightweight.

Oast Quilters

 Janet Clare and her husband came to Oast. Janet's talk about how she came to design fabrics for Moda and the whole process from concept to purchaser was fascinating.

She showed quilts made to showcase her fabrics  all in soft blues, greys, greens except her latest which represents a departure..

Meanwhile I have assembled my Blues Garden blocks. Adding white sashing with grey motifs made all the difference.

This has has a different look according to the line of vision. The lines are straight but the Cafe Walls Illusion makes them appear angled.

The effect is more marked from a distance

What did I do?

 Well I was quite pleased with what I got done especially as I took a morning off to go shopping in Beccles.

I sewed Two Strip Mix Up blocks from workshops with Valerie Nesbit of Creative Quilting and assembled a couple of tops.

I bound the blue and yellow quilt Maggie quilted for me.

Made to use up a long held bundle from a friend's stash sale. Very old fashioned.

It was  chance to hang up the Region 2 raffle quilt and sell some tickets.

On the last day I sewed lots of fabric fusion blocks from my sample fussy cut repeats but was disappointed with them. A couple of members encouraged me to go on and continued at home adding sashing ( white with a grey ouline flower print) which made all the difference. Now I'm pleased.
