Chartham Hatch

At our sewing day for six I took my now quilted by Maggie Laurel Burch jungly quilt with bright binding attached but not stitched down, a job for evenings in front of the TV. Coming thick and fast I handed over my corrected Tilda top for quilting.

Maggie had bordered and quilted her bright fishes quilt started in 2019.

Oops

I made a mistake on my Tilda top. I managed to press the block, the row and the quilt only noticing it at the photoshoot. An unpicking session in front of evening TV followed and today I'm going to replace it ready for Maggie to quilt tomorrow.

Last week she returned a Laurel Burch swap blocks quilt for me to bind. A long ago UFO.

Sewing Day

With one thing and another I've missed one or two lovely days with this group of friends who meet bi-monthly. I thought I might have to miss this one having had Covid the week before but the tenth day, feeling better and a negative test gave me the go ahead. Lots to see and share.

Little People quilt made with transatlantic swap blocks. Judi and I took part and taught a joint Guild workshop and I brought this for Judi to possibly use as part of an AGM event. The blocks take on a life of their own and prove very moreish.

A Master Quilter piece by Stephanie.

Another project from Stephanie, a really exquisite Master Quilter Christmas quilt.

Maggie's phenomenal quilts

We had a lovely day at Maggie's and got to admire her recent output of patchwork with an emphasis on hexagons. I didn't get them all just these:

The starting point for this was a Jen Kingwell myster medallion pattern
here completely reworked to make a very different design.

Very effective use of 1930's fabrics

An EPP tour de force

She is an accomplished longarm quilter and I took my Laurel Burch quilt top to be done by her. Spurned on by friends there are going too be monkeys dancing all over it, not what I expected but I am happy.

Bags of bags

Another scheme that took up some time was making bags in case one of my groups decided to have a bag tombola. I bought the printed linen some time ago from Sew and Sews Bungay, a very well stocked shop.

In the making

I made four, all different pairings of fabric patterns.

Bits and Bobs

I have not been inactive but very remiss in my blogging.

Anyway one thing that's going on is Margate Girl's (aka Zoe Murphy) Quilt Club on Tuesdays a shared learning Zoom Club. She is mainly a painter on and refurbisher of furniture but after the Oast Quilt Showcase has become enthusiastic about quilting. We all received a  beautifully packed kit.

I am making a mug rug from mine.

And at Quay Quilters Pauline showed examples of Manx patchwork, a folded log cabin whereby one's hand measurements determine the size.

And one morning we went to Faversham and checked out the Quay Quilters'   Millennium hangings in the library. Unlike many of these projects with lots of tiny images these were designed by Norma to be seen in a large space and from a distance.

Into the Woods

As promised my "Into the Woods" 24" quilt was returned to me retired from a Traditional Quilt Group suitcase collection. I am pleased to see it again as I wanted to check out the quilting pattern I used. My "tree" was prompted by a very good workshop with Helen Howes.

Giveaway

A long term NWR Book Group member is moving away to be nearer family. She also has done the NWR treasurer's job for many years so a farewell lunch was in order plus a glass of prosecco plus a gift. These were thoughtfully chosen - tasteful china mugs with Cathdral and Chaucer scenes on them, other items and a cushion made by me.

I should really have liked to crop this and brighten slightly but none of my picture programmes seem to allow this including Microsoft photo viewer my former go to.

One of our scientific members was intrigued and possibly mystified by my description of how it was made.

Phoenix Quilters

We had an enjoyable trip to Deal with a walk along the seafront, a location often used for Jane Austen dramas and the like.

It was quite breezy so a trip to the Phoenix Quilters' show was in order. An early C19th quilt was on display made by  a local woman, Sarah Buddle  (born in 1836) along with two other girls. I include the explanatory text. Click on the image to enlarge if interested.

Quilts by Oast members

Louise Jessup: " Northern Lights - Ribbons of Lights"
This is a three dimensional piece and Louise definitely is a textile artist rather than a quilt maker.
Her works exploit colour and texture.

Liz Coleman: Bali Garden

Detail of Bali Garden

Oast members were well represented at the show and several of them helped as angels and stewards.

Louise Jessup "Just Chillin'"

Janet Bevan "African Kells"
Penny Jeffries Tiger and Tulips
Penny was a member of Young Oast and is now a professional screen printer producing items for sale and accepting commissions.

Friends at Festival of Quilts

I love to see quilts made by friends and people I know hanging at FOQ especially the work I've seen in the making.

This is Belinda's "Green Tea and Sweet Beans"

Tracy's "It's A lot Christmas" made because she liked her first Sew Be quilt so much.
Tracy's first SewBe (?) quilt: "It's a lot quilt"
Tansy's "Allbrook Hill"  quilted by Maggie Breakspear, Lea Priory Quilting.

AT Festival of Quilts

Here is my quilt and me at Festival of Quilts. This is one of my all time favourites. It's next to friend Tracy's @sewing_tracy quilt and you can see the contrast between us. More friends' quilts to follow as well as other favourites.
