Now 'm on a retreat in Norfolk. On the way I stopped at a favourite shop, Hometown in Rochester. They had this pretty quilt in the window.

East Kent Guild Birthday Party

My effort

Every October quilters in our area gather to celebrate the Guild birthday in Aldington Village Hall. A feature of this one was a stash  sale of lovely fabric collected by a lady in the last ten years of her life when she no longer sewed but continued to receive a pack from the US Fat quarter shop every fortnight. It has been given to Region 2 of the Guild. In addition we made red and white house blocks for charity quilts in the morning. Then Marion Drake displayed part of her antique quilt collection, truly a visual feast. 
It was a super day - the best yet!

2019 Stars

2019 Stars

 I made the raffle quilt for the next Quilters' Guild Region 2 Show but there were extra blocks. Now on a mission to round off projects use up remaining fabric I made a second quilt from the spare blocks. As white backgrounds are not to my taste it will go on the sales table at our neighourhood Arts and Crafts Show. Now I just have lots of  1.5" half square triangles as leader enders. . .
The raffle quilt is called 2020 Stars because that's when the Show takes place. So this one is 2019 Stars walking foot quilted by myself. I think the quilting is just right and compliments the piecing though I accept it is functional rather than decorative. There is a piecing error which I didn't notice until it was on my bed at Broadstairs but I just smile!
(I had this in draft form and only found it after yesterday's post but here  it is anyway.)

The 2020 Stars quilt is back from Mary the longarmer and has already raised nearly £300 for Region 2. Meanwhile I have augmented the leftover pieces to complete a smaller quilt which I walking foot quilted. Although the quilting is utilitarian I like it as it is subservient to the piecing.

Mary's Garden quilt

 We met at Mary's house and found the quilt Maggie and I made for her on her bed; it looked just right. Also on a spare bed a lovely heart quilt I remember Mary making. Maggie showed her African Star quilt and we made Mary show us the flying geese samples she had done for  a Quay demonstration. These gave me ideas.

The U3A meeting had a bittersweet air as we mourned the loss of Margaret who has led the group for over a decade and built up a loyal following. Members produced the semi circular needlecases which she had taught at the beginning of the month. On that same day another member was celebrating the arrival of a new baby in her family.
I shall take over responsibility till the end of the 19-20 session and then the members will have to decide how or if they wish to proceed. I have loved the teaching I've done but feel my main focus in future must be making my own quilts, finishing UFO's and using my nicest fabric so I shall a break while the new group takes shape.
