Dragonflies Quilt Show

This is always a weekend to mark in the calendar. It turned out to be an especially lovely day out as I went with dear friends and we then went off to have lunch at a nice restaurant and then back to base for a cup of tea.

There are always lots of bright quilts to admire.

This pretty one is Tracy's. I love the flowery border fabric combined
with bright pastels.

These are the group raffle quilts; sadly, I didn't win one.

Bits and bobs

Here is my Dresden Plate from Lynne Goldsworthy of the Thread House Academy appliqued to the background and a snap of the foil method of making the centre circle.

And here are the Kawandi coaster fom a FOQ quick and easy workshop (Angela Daymond) and embroidered needlecase (Gilli Theokritoff).

I also attempted visible mending with Janet Goddard. I cannot locate the photo or my sample  though there is a picture of it on my Blipfoto page.

Day in London

While staying at my son's we took the opportunity to see two shows, Berthe Morisot at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and The Rossettis at Tate Britain.

The third day I explored on my own going to the London Fashion and Textile Museum to see Andy Warhol: The Textiles. These were largely displayed as dresses on mannequins but would do well for quilts today. The repetitions of everyday items act as precursors to his later iconic pictures of Cola bottles and Marilyn Monroe.

In a side room were items by a designer I hadn't heard of before.

I thought this "blanket" made witty use of

Next up was Mondrian and Hilma af Klint

Lower Hardres Day

I missed the Chartham Hatch Day which had been transferred to the first week of August but got to Lower Hardres.

Maggie delivered the quilted Region 2 raffle quilt made to Lynne Goldsworthy's Today's Quilter pattern from Tilda fabrics. I'm sewing down the binding these cooler evenings.

Also Tracy and Maggie had some lovely things to show us.

August

August has been quite busy, opening with the Festival of Quilts. I'll get round to ordering my pictures and making a record of them for myself on here but will start with more manageable events.

After FOQ Alan and I make our way to Ilkley for  lovely stay with cousin Joy. We had a lovely time further exploring the area including a trip to Howarth which I haven't visited for a long time. I am always struck by how many writers sew and quilt and sure enough a replica of the Bronte sisters' quilt lay on Patrick's bed and I had a nice chat with a quilter curator about it.

If the story of the Brontes wasn't sad enough the church was staging a textile event, quilts made from squares marking a death by suicide.

It was very sad to see more than one quilt even.

This is the third one I put in, Carolyn Forster's BOM in Today's Quilter/

those of her grandchildren.
