Hovering Hawks

Hovering Hawks with four fabrics

and with three

Instead of cutting squares 3 7/8" we cut them 4"  square, drew a
pencilled diagonal line on the lighter fabric and layered them
right sides together. Sew quarter of an inch on both sides of the
drawn line the cut along the drawn line to yield two HST's.
Trim back to 3.5" unfinished size as on the bottom right of the
picture.
The final and twelth block of the U3A beginners' series is a relatively easy one and after impressing on students the importance of an accurate quarter inch seam I showed them another way to achieve accuracy but which would involve more work.
