This is just a small piece where the side squares of each ninepatch were a different colour while the corner squares are of a consistent alphabet fabric. This quilt was bagged out as it is only 40" square.

This reminds me of the Patience Corner block which can be made quickly by putting borders on a square and then cutting in 4. If the fabric is directional it doesn't work too well.
It's interesting to see the variety of looks the same block gets by varying the fabrics.
